Graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts Students to Display Their Works

From paintings and photography to graphic design and glass, the works of UM Bachelor of Fine Arts graduating students will be on display at the CAS Gallery from May 3-11. A reception honoring all graduating art students will be held on Thursday, May 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery, which is located at the Wesley Foundation at 1210 Stanford Drive on the Coral Gables campus. Talent of UM Students to be Showcased at ‘Canes Film Festival

The Cosford Cinema presents the 2012 ‘Canes Film Festival, featuring work from undergraduate and graduate students in the Motion Pictures Program at the University of Miami School of Communication. Films represent multiple genres, including documentary, comedy, drama, and thriller. Admission is free and open to the public.

The films, which screen Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5, are judged by a panel of film and television industry professionals. The judges’ top selections screen Sunday, May 6 as part of the “Best of Fest” celebration. Filmmakers who receive the highest recognition are invited to work with major Hollywood film studios. Screening times are as follows:

Friday, May 4
5 to 9:30 p.m. – Undergraduate film showcase

Saturday, May 5
12 to 2:30 p.m. – Undergraduate film showcase

2:30-3 p.m. – UFilm Studios, a UM organization dedicated to filmmaking

3-5 p.m. – ID Studies

5-6 p.m. – Dinner break

6-8 p.m. – Graduate film showcase

8-9 p.m. – Undergraduate and graduate senior thesis films

9-9:30 p.m. – Awards ceremony

9:30-11:30 p.m. – Reception

Sunday, May 6
7-9 p.m. – “Best of Fest,” featuring the judges’ selection of the best student films

The Cosford Cinema is located on the second floor of the Memorial Building on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus.

R&B supergroup and ’80s-era boy band New Edition is bringing its 30th Anniversary Tour to the BankUnited Center on Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m. The highly influential crooners are back at it, this time with all six members—Bobby, Johnny, Ricky, Mike, Ronnie, and Ralph. The group will perform all the songs you remember, from “Candy Girl” to “Can You Stand the Rain,” plus the jams that launched their solo careers: “My Prerogative” (Bobby Brown), “My My My” (Johnny Gill), “Sensitivity” (Ralph Tresvant), and “Poison” (Bell BivDeVoe).
