Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology will host grand rounds on Thursday, May 31 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Jose Berrocal Auditorium. Ophthalmology residents and fellows will present interesting or unusual cases. The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Learn the latest in skin care and find out how to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Skin Care 101, a seminar presented by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), will feature Jonette Keri, associate professor of dermatology and cutaneous surgery at the Miller School of Medicine, who will answer questions and provide information and resources on how to safeguard your skin.

The Alan S. Livingstone, M.D., Commemorative Lecture will be held on Thursday, May 31 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, fifth-floor auditorium. William C. Wood, professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine’s Winship Cancer Institute, will present “Breast Cancer Treatment in 3-D.” The lecture will contrast the cost of new therapies with their incremental benefits and compare the cost of care in the U.S. with that of low-income countries.

The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics will host “Why We Can’t Wait: Conference to Eliminate Health Disparities in Genomic Medicine” May 31 through June 1 at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, 255 Biscayne Boulevard Way, Miami.
Genetic advances hold extreme promise, but also the potential to further increase health disparities. Join a forum of stakeholders to learn, identify, and discuss many of the challenges and possible solutions for addressing health disparities in genomic medicine.
