American Institute of Architects to Hold Monthly Meeting at UM

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) will conduct its monthly meeting and reception at the University of Miami’s Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, Glasgow Hall, on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. A reception begins at 6 p.m. UM President Donna E. Shalala is scheduled to speak. Alzheimer’s Association Presents Program on International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment

On Tuesday, May 22 Maria Carrillo, senior director of medical and scientific relations for the Alzheimer’s Association, will visit the Miller School of Medicine campus to meet with Margaret A. Pericak-Vance, associate dean for Human Genomic Programs, Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Professor of Human Genomics, and director of the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, and other Alzheimer’s disease researchers from across South Florida. At 2 p.m. Carrillo will present the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment program in the Lois Pope LIFE Center, seventh-floor auditorium.

Relaxation Training

A refreshed mind and rejuvenated spirit are not the only benefits of relaxation. Improved physical health can also result from releasing tension and reducing stress. Learn how to consciously activate your body’s relaxation response. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers this lunchtime seminar for those interested in learning relaxation techniques. FSAP Health and Wellness seminars are offered as part of the University of Miami’s Well ’Canes Program.

Miller School of Medicine campus: Tuesday, May 22 from 12 to 1 p.m. at University of Miami Hospital, Seminar Center C.

Coral Gables campus: Wednesday, May 23 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Whitten University Center, Room 245.

Rosenstiel School campus: Thursday, May 24 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Library Map and Chart Room.

Ready to Retire? Learn How at a Retirement Education Seminar

University of Miami faculty and staff who are considering retirement are encouraged to attend “Ready to Retire,” a seminar designed to guide you through the process. Retirement experts will discuss retirement fund distribution options, health care benefits, and important Medicare deadlines. The seminar will also address the emotional and psychological factors that contribute to a healthy and happy retirement.

“Ready to Retire” will take place on the Miller School of Medicine campus on Tuesday, May 22 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Mailman Center Auditorium; on the Coral Gables campus on Wednesday, May 23 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Whitten University Center, Flamingo Ballroom A; and on the Rosenstiel School campus on Wednesday, May 23 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Rosenstiel School auditorium.
