EU Center Lecture: The Acquisition of Spanish and EU Citizenship for Latin Americans: New Laws and Regulations

The Miami-Florida European Union Center of Excellence, a partnership with Florida International University and the Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Miami, will present a seminar and discussion on “The Acquisition of Spanish and EU Citizenship for Latin Americans: New Laws and Regulations.” The presentation will be given by Pilar Méndez, deputy consul general of Spain, on Monday, April 4 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Merrick 307, Coral Gables campus. For more information, contact Astrid Boening at [email protected] or call 305-284-3266. Modern Languages and Literatures Lecture: The University of L’Aquila within the Reconstruction of the Built Environment and the Social Fabric of the City

The University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Modern Languages and Literatures will host Anna Tozzi, professor of mathematics and director of the Office for Pedagogical and Research Exchanges and Collaborations at Università degli Studi dell’Aquila, on Monday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. in Merrick 210-01. Tozzi will present “The University of L’Aquila within the Reconstruction of the Built Environment and the Social Fabric of the City.” A reception will follow the lecture, which is made possible by funds from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Biology Departmental Seminar: Evolution of Vocal Communication in Frogs

Carl Gerhardt, Curators Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will present “Evolution of Vocal Communication in Frogs” on Monday, April 4 at 12:20 p.m. in the Cox Science Center, Room 166. The Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health and the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics will host a seminar on Monday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Clinical Research Building, Room 988. Office of Civic and Community Engagement to Host Talk by David Scobey

David Scobey, executive dean of The New School for General Studies and Milano the New School for Management and Urban Policy, will present “In Here/Out There: The Arts of Citizenship in a Diverse Democracy (Or, Why Maurice Chevalier Came to Town)” on Monday, April 4 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, Glasgow Hall. Scobey’s talk will address how the arts, humanities, and design act as incubators for civic and community engagement. A reception in the Korach Gallery will follow. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Office of Civic and Community Engagement, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Center for the Humanities.
