Celebration Concert for the Frost School’s Joyce Jordan and Nick DeCarbo

The University of Miami Frost Wind Ensemble will perform a “Celebration Concert for Joyce Jordan and Nick DeCarbo” on Tuesday, April 26 at 8 p.m. in the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus. The special evening is a musical tribute honoring Jordan and DeCarbo for their long and valued tenure at the Frost School of Music and support of the University of Miami Bands. Pieces on the program will include works by Strauss, Grainger, Nelson, Reed, and Holst. The music was selected by the honorees as literature that expresses their love for the repertoire of the wind band. The concert is free and open to the public.

Rehabilitation Medicine Grand Rounds: New Techniques in Peripheral Nerve and Spine Surgery

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine will host grand rounds on Tuesday, April 26 from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Lois Pope LIFE Center, seventh-floor Apex Center. Allan Levi, professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Miller School of Medicine, will present “New Techniques in Peripheral Nerve and Spine Surgery.” The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.

Cell Biology and Anatomy Seminar: Understanding Synaptic Biology Through the Vertebrate Neuromuscular Junction

The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy will host a seminar by Weichun Lin, assistant professor and Effie Marie Cain Scholar in Medical Research in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, on Tuesday, April 26 at 12 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, fourth-floor auditorium. Travel Fairs to Be Held on Coral Gables and Miller School Campuses

Travel Management will host its annual Travel Fair on the Coral Gables and Miller School of Medicine campuses. The Coral Gables Fair will take place on Tuesday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Whitten University Center, first-floor Lower Lounge.

The Medical Campus Fair will take place on Tuesday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a new location, the Medical Wellness Center in the Clinical Research Building.

Both fairs will feature authorized travel agencies, hotels, car rental companies, and other UM vendors. Complete a survey form to participate in a raffle for exciting prizes such as airline tickets and hotel stays.

Salon des Refuses Exhibition Opens at CAS Gallery April 1

The Department of Art and Art History presents the Sixth Annual “Salon des Refuses” exhibition, named after the celebrated Salon des Refusés exhibition of 1863 in Paris in which the Impressionists exhibited their revolutionary new paintings that had been “refused” by the French Academy. The Department of Art and Art History will showcase the work of students who entered the Annual Juried Student Competition and were not accepted.

In celebration of the event, an opening reception will be held on Friday, April 1 at 5 p.m. along with the department’s annual barbecue.
