Miami Leads All Programs with Five Pro Bowl Selections

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, a former UM football player, will be making his first appearance in the NFL Pro Bowl.

The National Football League has announced its 2012 Pro Bowl rosters, and the Miami Hurricanes lead all NCAA programs with five former UM players chosen to play in the annual all-star contest on January 29 in Hawaii.

The Baltimore Ravens’ Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, the New Orleans Saints’ Jimmy Graham, the New England Patriots’ Vince Wilfork, and the San Francisco 49ers’ Frank Gore make up five of the 11 players from the Atlantic Coast Conference to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl.

The five selections for Miami are more than all other schools in the state of Florida, as UCF, Florida State, USF, and Florida each have only one selection. Pittsburg was the second-most represented college football program as they saw four players earn nods. Michigan, Ole Miss, Georgia, Cal, and USC earned three selections apiece.

Last season ten former Hurricanes earned a spot on the Pro Bowl roster, and in 2010 a record 11 former UM players earned the honor.

Lewis has been named to the Pro Bowl in 12 of the last 14 seasons, including six straight. Reed has also been named to six straight Pro Bowls, while Wilfork has been in the last three. Gore will be making his third appearance (2007, 2010), while Graham is making his first appearance in just his second professional season.

The Pro Bowl will be played on January 29 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu and will be broadcast by Fox.
