UMH Medicine Grand Rounds

The Division of Hospital Medicine will present Grand Rounds on Thursday, May 7 at 12 p.m. at UMH, Seminar Centers A and  B, on the first floor. Haydee Kapin, program coordinator at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center will present “Chemotherapy Induced Hypersensitivity Reactions (HSRs): Early Identification and Prompt Management - 2009.” By attending this lecture, participants will be able to list three classes of chemotherapy agents most likely to cause HSRs, enumerate basic safety considerations in administering chemotherapy to prevent HSRs, and integrate conclusions of recent studies in clinical practice when considering chemotherapy patient desensitization. The lecture is designed for family practitioners, emergency physicians, surgeons, internists, and hospitalists. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. The Office of Research Information Management is offering a Velos Patient Management Workshop for team members, coordinators, research nurses, and all study personnel to learn how the system will help them manage patients. The workshop will include a hands-on module that will cover patient enrollment, patient status management, and patient calendars. The UM Office of Research Compliance Assessment presents a Sponsored Programs Roundtable - Brown Bag Lunch Series: “Overview of Good Clinical Practice” with Lynn Smith, director of Office of Research Compliance Assessment (ORCA), and Johanna Stamates, compliance officer at ORCA.

Good clinical practice is the compilation of accepted ethical and scientific standards governing clinical research that ensure the integrity of data obtained, the protection of human research subjects, and the responsibilities of principal investigators and the study team in the conduct of research. The goal of the series is to help UM leaders set expectations and develop the knowledge and skills required for effective employee performance management. UM Student/Master of Fine Arts Exhibitions

Spring has returned and nature beckons discovery and exploration—even in art form. The annual two-part UM Student/Master of Fine Arts Exhibitions are viewable at the Lowe Art Museum. Also on view: UM’s Faculty Exhibition, featuring Carsten Meier’s Naturell. A preview and reception for the juried student exhibition and Naturell will be held Friday, April 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. The evening will be highlighted with a special lecture by Meier. A preview reception for the MFA exhibition, on view from May 14-June 14, will be held Wednesday, May 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. Both receptions are free and open to the public. Regular admission to the Lowe (not including special events) is $10; $5 for seniors and non-UM students; and free for Lowe Art Museum members, UM students, faculty and staff, and children under 12 years of age.
