The Department of Medical Education Grand Rounds series, sponsored by the Educational Development Office, will host Bernard Charlin, a professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Montreal, on Friday, May 29 at 12 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, fifth-floor auditorium. Trained in Montpellier, France, as a head and neck surgeon, Charlin obtained a certificate of advanced studies in human development and psychology from Harvard University in 1994 and a Ph.D. in education at the University of Maastricht in 2002. At the University of Montreal, he is head of the Unit of Research and Development in Health Sciences Education. His research field is assessment in situation of uncertainty. In this UM Healthy Steps event, presented by Buckle Up for Life, vouchers for new infant/child car seats will be provided after participants complete a questionnaire at the beginning of the class. Information on how to obtain car seats will also be provided. A small donation is required to purchase a car seat at a later date. The class will be held on Wednesday, May 27 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Mailman Center for Child Development, Room 3023. Gordon Weir, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, head of the Section on Islet Transplantation and Cell Biology at Joslin Diabetes Center, and chairperson of the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications External Advisory Committee, will present “Challenges Faced by the Transplantation of Naked and Encapsulated Islets” on Thursday, May 28 at 3 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, Room 3109.
