Jose Ruiz, assistant professor of otolaryngology, and Jessica Kulak, resident of otolaryngology, will present “Invasive Fungal Sinusitis/Mucormycosis.” By attending the lecture, participants will discuss pathogenesis of invasive fungal sinusitis and the diagnosis and management of mucormycosis. Support the Debbie School’s Scholastic Book Fair from Wednesday through Friday, May 13 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the breezeway between the Mailman Center for Child Development and the Debbie School. All proceeds from the event benefits the Debbie School, part of the Mailman Center for Child Development focusing on early intervention research, training, and service. For more than 30 years, the Mailman Center has conducted research on problems impacting children with special needs, provided early intervention services for children and their families, and provided training for university students interested in careers in special education, speech-language pathology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and social work.

The University of Miami’s division of Multicultural Student Affairs will host its 17th annual Senior Mwambo ceremony to honor the institution’s black graduates on Thursday, May 14 at 2 p.m. in Gusman Concert Hall on the Coral Gables Campus. Michelle A. Delancy, a founding partner with the law firm of delancyhill, P.A., in Miami will address students. Delancy focuses her practice on commercial and criminal litigation matters with extensive experience in commercial, construction, family, criminal defense, landlord/tenant, and administrative litigation. She represents a client base of small businesses/entrepreneurs, medium-sized corporations, and municipal bodies.
Mwambo, a Chichewa word from Malawi, East Africa, means ceremonial rite of passage. It is a celebration of the transition from one stage of life to the next. The African rite of passage ceremony is designed to recognize the accomplishments of graduates and their families. In addition, graduates, faculty, and staff will be honored for both their academic achievements and contributions to the black student community.

The Office of Research Information Management is offering a Velos Patient Management Workshop for team members, coordinators, research nurses, and all study personnel to learn how the system will help them manage patients. The workshop will include a hands-on module that will cover patient enrollment, patient status management, and patient calendars. The Miami-Dade Property Appraisal Department offers a public education and outreach program to keep Miami-Dade residents informed about developments in the property tax system. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) sponsors this seminar for those interested in exploring the details of new developments. The Controller’s Office continues to host Fiscal Year-End Survival Kit Training sessions in May at both the Coral Gables and Miller School of Medicine campuses. This informative two-hour overview is recommended for DMAS/FRS users who are getting ready for year-end closing. Training includes a discussion of year-end closing procedures, general deadlines, key contacts, and tools to help reconcile accounts.
