Amir K. Jaffer, associate professor of medicine, chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine, and Chief of Medicine Service at University of Miami Hospital, will present “Update in Hospital Medicine – 2009” on Thursday, August 13 at 12 p.m. at UMH Seminar Centers A and B, first floor.
By attending this lecture, participants will be able to outline high impact studies of relevance to inpatient, internal, and hospital medicine in 2008 and early 2009; review the methodology, results, and conclusions of these studies; and discuss the implications of these studies on internal and hospital medicine clinical practice. The lecture is designed for family practitioners, emergency physicians, surgeons, internists, and hospitalists. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Division of Hospital Medicine will host Grand Rounds featuring Michelle Bauer, assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, who will present “Substance Abuse in Older Adults: When Does it Stop?” on Thursday, May 21 at 12 p.m. in the UMH Seminar Centers A and B, on the first floor. By attending this lecture, participants will be able to measure epidemiology of substance abuse in older populations, discover available screening tests and their relevance for older patients, and implement appropriate strategies to assist older patients with substance abuse and comorbid disorders.
