The Community Blood Centers of South Florida will conduct a blood drive at the Herbert Wellness Center on Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4. The Employee Assistance Program offers this seminar for those who are or know of someone in the caregiver role. Caring for another person—whether an ill partner, elderly parent, or developmentally challenged child—can be both physically and psychologically taxing. This seminar will focus on helping caregivers avoid “caregiver burnout.” Resources available to caregivers also sill be presented.
Participants will:
- review issues affecting caregivers
- identify strategies that help caregivers manage stress
- learn about available resources so people know where to get help
- have an opportunity to ask questions

The Biomedical Nanoscience Initiative of the University of Miami (BioNIUM) Retreat, themed “Small Solutions to Big Problems,” takes place Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4 at the BankUnited Center, Hurricane 100 Room. The course runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The workshop organizers are Richard Cote, professor and chair of the Department of Pathology and Ram Datar, research associate professor of pathology. The purpose of this retreat is to inform investigators from across the medical and engineering campuses of recent advances and opportunities in biomedical nanoscience. The development of processes of microfabrication, microfluidics, and nanotechnology are revolutionizing the field of portable and implantable biomedical devices. Leading investigators in the field of Biomedical Nanoscience will address the audience and introduce their fascinating research achievements in the area. Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows with active interest in the field are encouraged to attend. Registration is free and is open to the first 125 participants.
