Screening: ‘Kicking It’

Baptist Collegiate Ministries will screen the documentary Kicking It, which follows seven players in the Homeless World Cup, an annual street soccer competition involving teams from 50 countries. The screening takes place on Thursday, March 4 at 7:15 p.m. in the Learning Center, Room 130.

Festive fundraising event for autism awareness

The Tropical Nights Kick Off Party to benefit University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) will be held on Thursday, March 4 at Fratelli Lyon Driade, located at 4141 N.E. 2nd Avenue in Miami’s chic Design District. The festive gathering is the center’s main fundraising event of the year.

UM-NSU CARD is a South Florida, non-profit committed to providing free educational support, outreach services, and family guidance to children and adults of all levels of intellectual functioning, who have autism spectrum disorders. Services for families throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties include programmatic technical assistance and consultation, parent and professional training programs, and family support and public awareness activities. UM-NSU CARD also participates in research in a variety of disciplines to better understand the causes of the disorder.

Presented by Odebrecht, the seventh annual event will feature sumptuous antipasti from Fratelli Lyon Driade, as well as cocktails and drinks courtesy of Southern Wine and Spirits of America and Gold Coast Beverage and wine from H. Stagnari.

‘Intervention Development and Cultural Tailoring’ seminar

On Thursday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., El Centro Center of Excellence for Hispanic Health Disparities Research/Centro de Investigación de Salud Hispana and the University of Miami Developmental Center for AIDS Research will present “Intervention Development and Cultural Tailoring Seminar” in Room 107 of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies, 5030 Brunson Drive, Coral Gables.

The seminar is inteded for emerging investigators interested in developing culturally tailored interventions. The program will include presentations and panels by distinguished behavioral intervention developmetn scientists.

Topics include:

  • Frameworks for Cultural Tailoring
  • Designing a Stage 1 Treatment Development Study
  • The Application of Basic Data on Culture to Inform Intervention Development
  • NIH Funding Mechanisms for Intervention Development
