International Law Lecture Series features visiting professor William Twining

Mar

12:30 pm

International Graduate Law Programs continues its International Law Lecture Series with a presentation by UM Law Visiting Professor William Twining, who will discuss his book, Human Rights:  Southern Voices at the Law Library Reading Room, D201, on Tuesday, March 9, from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m.

Most human rights work proceeds without much regard to the interests and views of the global south. Human Rights: Southern Voices presents writings on human rights by four different non-Western thinkers: Francis Deng, a deputy secretary-general of the U.N., who has written extensively about his people, the Dinka of Southern Sudan; professor Abdullahi An-Na’im, also from Sudan, a leading liberal Muslim and theologian; professor Yash Ghai, a leading constitutional adviser in Asia, the South Pacific, and his native Kenya; and professor Upendra Baxi, a prominent academic, public intellectual, and activist in India. Professor Twining introduces the authors and compares their perspectives.

Twining, a regular visiting professor at the School of Law, is a leading figure in British legal education. The semester-long series is held every other Tuesday.  For more information, call 305-284-5402 or e-mail [email protected].
