The Miami Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series continues on Wednesday, March 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. R. Rodney Howell, professor and chairman emeritus of the Department of Pediatrics at the Miller School of Medicine, will present “Newborn Screening: From the Public Health Laboratory, Into Federal Policy, and Into Translational Research.”

Howell will discuss the history of newborn screening and how the work that began in the public health laboratory has led to the development of many new public policies and is increasingly providing the impetus for important National Institutes of Health-funded research developments.

Take a break from a busy work week and learn how to consciously activate your body’s relaxation response. This lunchtime seminar is offered by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. FSAP Health and Wellness seminars are offered as part of the University of Miami’s Well ’Canes Program.

Coral Gables campus: Tuesday, March 20 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the University Center, Room 245.

Psychiatry Grand Rounds: Neuropsychiatric Complications of HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND)

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will host psychiatry grand rounds on Wednesday, March 21 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s Jose Berrocal Auditorium, second floor. Francisco Fernandez, professor and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences and director of the Institute for Research in Psychiatry at the University of South Florida, will present “Neuropsychiatric Complications of HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND).” The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity will provide 1.50 CEs to psychologists, social workers, and nurses who attend.
