UM to hold several events related to Dalai Lama visit

The University of Miami will host several events related to the return visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, who will speak on “The Quest for Happiness in Challenging Times” at the BankUnited Center on October 26.

Tuesday, October 19 Stephen Halsey, assistant professor in the UM Department of History, will present a lecture on “The Dragon and the Snow Lion: China, Tibet, and the Dalai Lama” from 7 to 8 p.m. in LC 120. For more information, click here.

Wednesday, October 20 Geshe Tenzin Dorje, of the Deer Park Buddhist Center and Monastery in Wisconsin, will speak on “Karma and Purification in Tibetan Buddhism” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. LC 130. For more information, click here.

Thursday, October 21 Geshe Tenzin Dorje, of the Deer Park Buddhist Center and Monastery in Wisconsin, will speak on “Key to Happiness: Compassion in Tibetan Buddhism” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in LC 160. For more information, click here.

A reception for Geshe Tenzin Dorje will be held at 8 p.m. in Mahoney Master’s Apartment, Mahoney-Pearson Residential Colleges.

Sunday, October 24 Tsering Yanzo, of the Deer Park Buddhist Center and Monastery in Wisconsin, will speak “Women in Tibetan Buddhism: Reflections on My Experiences as a Tibetan Buddhist Nun” from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hecht Master’s Apartment, Hecht Residential College. For more information, click here.

Monday, October 25 There will be a screening of the film The Little Buddha, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, at 6 p.m. in LC 140. For more information, click here.
