EPA virtual environmental microbiology seminar

Jun
17
2:00 pm

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a virtual environmental microbiology seminar entitled “Derivation and Use of a New Discrete Growth Probability Distribution of Microbes in Environmental Samples and Associated Dose-Response Function.” In this talk, an explanation for the occurrence of highly skewed, not bell-shaped probability distributions of the number of microbes in a glass of drinking water and other complex system outcomes will be offered, along with implications for risk assessment. Access is free and open to the public.

The seminar, which will be presented virtually by James D. Englehardt, UM professor of environmental engineering, takes place on Wednesday, June 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. The seminar can be accessed from your computer through the EPA’s Oracle Web Conference Tool. If you are a first-time user of this conference tool, it is recommended that you download the conference software in advance of the seminar.

This series of seminars has been created to provide an opportunity to hear about state-of-the-art scientific research being conducted by leaders in the field of environmental microbiology and to encourage the exchange of information among interested scientists. Speakers have been invited to discuss recently completed or ongoing research that involves the use of innovative approaches that can be used to address issues of concern to the agency.

For questions about the seminar or assistance in using the Oracle Web Conference Tool, contact Jatin Mistry at 513-569-7794 or e-mail [email protected].
