In this session, Dealing with Difficult People, participants will learn how to calmly and effectively handle challenging individuals and situations. Participants will discover powerful tools for assessing difficult people and managing conflict without sacrificing self-respect. Learn to stay focused, respond positively to negative people, and communicate more effectively with all types of problem personalities. The University of Miami’s Center on Aging is conducting focus groups to better understand UM working caregivers’ needs. The purpose of the focus groups are to identify and understand the needs of working caregivers, educate employers about the needs of working caregivers and about the burden of caregiving and its relationship to productivity in the workplace, and develop psycho-social interventions to improve the health and well-being of caregivers and the ability of caregivers to balance employment and work responsibilities. A focus group will be held on the Coral Gables campus on Wednesday, June 24 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is pleased to offer a relaxation training seminar for those interested in improving their capacity to effectively use relaxation techniques. This seminar will focus on helping participants identify the fight-or-flight response (with triggers), discuss ways to promote the parasympathetic (relaxation) response, and practice “practical” techniques to promote relaxation.
