7:00 pm

No Zebras: ‘Canes Against Sexual Assault is sponsoring a Self-Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) introductory self-defense class through a partnership with the University of Miami Police Department as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This special free class, to be held on Wednesday, April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., is open to interested female students, faculty, or staff members of the University. It is not open to the public.

S.A.F.E. is a two-hour program that provides women with personal safety information and an introduction to the physical aspects of self-defense. Prevention, options, strategies, and physical techniques are the key components of the S.A.F.E. Program. S.A.F.E. was developed as a precursor/ introduction to the nine- to 12-hour Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program, also offered by UM Police.

While No Zebras: ‘Canes Against Sexual Assault is sponsoring this class free of charge to female members of the University of Miami, community, there is normally a requested contribution of $10 for students, faculty, and staff.

Due to limited class size, advance registration is required. The class will be held on UM’s Coral Gables campus; its exact location will be disclosed only to those who register. For further information or to register, please visit the UMPD self defense Web site at www.miami.edu/police/selfdefense.
