BankUnited Canesfest and Select-A-Seat set for Saturday, April 17

Miami will host BankUnited Canesfest and Select-A-Seat on April 17.

University of Miami football fans will get to kick off the upcoming 2010 season on Saturday, April 17 at the BankUnited CanesFest and Select-A-Seat event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium. Admission is free to the public.

BankUnited CanesFest and Select-A-Seat will give fans who haven’t yet purchased their 2010 season tickets the opportunity to choose their seats from all available stadium inventories. Existing season tickets holders can also select seats, should they wish to relocate.

Fans will have a chance to listen to UM football offensive, defensive, and special teams players during a panel discussion hosted by Joe Zagacki, “The Voice of the Miami Hurricanes,” beginning at 11 a.m.

There will be interactive inflatable games, locker room tours, and more.

UM Frost Opera Theater concludes season with two one-act operas

The Frost Opera Theater at the University of Miami concludes its 2009 – 2010 season with the South Florida premieres of two one – act operas: Strawberry Fields by Michael Torke and A.R. Gurney, and Ballymore, Part 1: Winners by Richard Wargo.

Lauded by international press and an Emmy Award nominee for its PBS Great Performances broadcast, Strawber­ry Fields draws together memorable characters surrounding an elegant, aging woman who perceives life in Central Park as a visit to the opera.  While there, she shares her love for Verdi with a Columbia University student who, in turn, teaches her about John Lennon.  Ballymore, Part 1: Winners is based on a play by Ireland’s premiere dramatist, Brian Friel.  It relates the events of a fateful day in the lives of two teenagers engaged to be married in the town of Ballymore, Ireland.
