Rosenstiel School’s 2010 Sea Secrets lecture series launches January 13

OctopusThe University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and the Ocean Research and Education Foundation have announced the roster of distinguished scientists and explorers who will speak in the 2010 Sea Secrets lecture series. The lectures, which are free and open to the public, are designed to provide insight and information about the oceans that cover two-thirds of our planet. The programs take place in the Rosenstiel School Auditorium, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and followed by the lecture at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by The Elizabeth Ordway Dunn Foundation, The Charles N. and Eleanor Knight Leigh Foundation, and Southern Wine and Spirits, Sea Secrets is designed for the South Florida non-scientific community.

Controller’s Office offers DMAS training sessions

The Controller’s Office is offering various DMAS/FRS training sessions during January on the Coral Gables and Miller School of Medicine campuses. The classes are an informative three-hour overview session recommended for DMAS/FRS users who are new to the systems or have not had Controller’s Office training in the financial systems. Depending on their access and needs, individuals may register for the class via ULearn.miami.edu. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call 305-284-5509.

DMAS/FRS for Beginners: For those who have DMAS/FRS access and are new to the systems. Date: Wednesday, January 13 from 9 to 12 p.m. at the Coral Gables campus Professional Development and Training Office Training Room, Max Orovitz Building, first floor, Room 139.

DMAS/FRS for Beginners: For those who have DMAS/FRS access and are new to the systems. Date: Thursday, January 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Miller School Professional Development and Training Office Training Room, Dominion Towers Parking Garage Building, first floor, Room 155.

Miller School Wellness Center kicks off 2010 with health fair

The University of Miami Medical Wellness Center invites members and non-members alike to boost their vitality and well-being in 2010 by participating in innovative programs and classes to be showcased in a health fair on Wednesday, January 13.

Dean Pascal Goldschmidt will offer opening remarks at 11 a.m.; Sebastian the Ibis will arrive at 12 p.m. Visit vendor tables sponsored by Pasha’s Refreshments, Sambazon juices, Runner’s High, SOBeFit, and the departments of plastic surgery and sports medicine. Check out the self-defense demo, spin the Wheel of Wellness, and win prizes.

Miller School of Medicine, Miami Project to Cure Paralysis to host special lecture

The Miller School of Medicine, in collaboration with The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, will host a special lecture by Robert S. Langer, the David H. Koch Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, on Wednesday, January 13 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Lois Pope LIFE Center, seventh-floor auditorium.
