The Center for Latin American Studies and the Haitian Student Organization will host “L’Union Fait La Force: Coming Together as a People of Haiti” on Wednesday, January 20 at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the University of Miami Fieldhouse, adjacent to the BankUnited Center. The community gathering, led by School of Education Associate Professor MarieGuerda Nicolas, with the participation of Father Reginald Jean-Marie, will address strategies to effectively assist Haiti’s quake victims. Matthias Scheutz, of the Departments of Informatics, Computer Science, and Cognitive Science at Indiana University, will present “DIARC: Steps Toward Integrated Cognitive NLP Architecture for Human-Robot Interaction” on Wednesday, January 20 at 3:30 p.m. in Room MEA202 of the McArthur Engineering Annex. Professor Scheutz will present his latest work on an incremental NLP system integrated into a robotic DIARC architecture, which is heavily based on findings in psycholinguistics about the nature of lexical, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic processing and its relation to action execution. The University of Miami community will hold a candlelight vigil for Haiti’s quake victims on Wednesday, January 20 at 8 p.m. at the University Center Rock. Other events are also being planned as UM continues to reach out to the crisis-hit nation with donations, medical assistance from Miller School physicians, and other relief efforts.

Learn how to use the InfoEd Proposal Development system to prepare and submit your proposal electronically to the NIH. InfoEd streamlines the proposal development process, is Web based, and accessible almost anywhere by Mac and PC users. No additional software is required. InfoEd pre-fills agency forms and includes built-in agency validations, stores proposals in a secure environment, and provides a database of all proposals submitted. In this interactive hands-on computer workshop, participants will learn how to create, route, submit, and track a proposal using the InfoEd Proposal Development system. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, January 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Training Room 10, located on the tenth floor in Dominion Towers. Registration is required through ULearn.
