The Bill Cosford Cinema presents a special one-night-only screening of the documentary Closer to the Dream. The film is an electoral road trip/portrait of Americans enthusiastically supporting or at times just familiarizing themselves with then-primary candidate Barack Obama. The film documents the journey inside the Obama movement through the inspiring stories of ordinary Americans. Award-winning documentary filmmaking couple Guetty Felin and Hervé Cohen will present the film and host a question-and-answer session. The film screens Thursday, January 21 at 8 p.m. at the Bill Cosford Cinema. The screening is free and open to the public.

Jack E. Davis, associate professor of history at the University of Florida, will present his book An Everglades Providence: Marjory Stoneman Douglas and the American Environmental Century, on Thursday, January 21 as part of the University of Miami Libraries’ Friends of the Libraries lecture series. The first major biography of one of America’s premier environmentalists, Davis’s book explores the 108-year life of this compelling woman, who was a suffragist, lifetime feminist, supporter of the ERA, champion of social justice, and noted author.
