Luz Marina Prieto, director of the Endocrinology Ambulatory Clinic at JMH, assistant professor of clinical medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Miller School of Medicine, will present “UMH In-Patient Hyperglycemia Management” on Thursday, January 14 at 12 p.m. at University of Miami Hospital, Seminar Centers A and B, first floor. By attending this lecture, participants will be able to:
• Recognize the importance of hyperglycemia in hospitalized patients.
• Grasp the management of UMH insulin orders.
• Devise discharge plans in patients with insulin treatment.

Pascal J. Goldschmidt, dean of the Miller School of Medicine, and James M. The University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science will be the location for a workshop entitled “Predicting the Climate of Coming Decades” from January 11 – 14, 2010. The goal of the event is to bring together researchers involved in developing climate prediction systems and potential users to discuss the prospects for decadal climate prediction.
“The climate of the coming decades is going to be influenced by human-induced changes as well as ‘natural’ fluctuations; to date, these have been examined separately,” said Amy Clement, associate professor of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at UM’s Rosenstiel School, and workshop co-chair. “However, in order to plan for, manage, and adapt to these changes, we need to make predictions that include both naturally occurring and human-induced climate changes.

The University of Miami School of Communication, joined by The Online News Association (ONA), will host the school’s annual Beyond Bootcamp Multimedia Workshops from January 9 to January 16.
The intensive three-day workshops will be taught by leading faculty and internationally renowned multimedia professionals. Each workshop opens in the evening with a keynote speaker and features a daily luncheon with an award-wining multimedia producer and three full days of instruction.
