SAFE (Self-Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange) is a two-hour program that provides women with personal safety information and an introduction to the physical aspects of self-defense. Prevention, options, strategies, and physical techniques are the key components of the SAFE Program. SAFE is a highly regarded stand-alone course, but it is also an excellent precursor/introduction to the 9- to 12-hour RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) program, should you want to take your knowledge and skills to the next level. The University of Miami Police Department offers both SAFE and RAD periodically throughout the year.
The next SAFE class will be held on Wednesday, February 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the Coral Gables campus. The exact location will be disclosed to registered participants. There is a nominal fee of $10 for students, faculty, and staff; $15 for non-UM affiliated individuals. Payment is due via credit card when registering for the course online. Advanced sign-up is required due to limited class size. For more information or to sign up, visit the UMPD self defense Web site at www.miami.edu/police/selfdefense. Questions may be directed to the UMPD Crime Prevention Office at 305-284-1105.
