Anil Virkar, distinguished professor and chair of materials science and engineering at the University of Utah and member of the National Academy of Engineering, will present “A Study of Solid Fuel Cell Performance: Experiments and Modeling” on Monday, February 1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the McArthur Engineering Annex, Room MEA 202, as part of the College of Engineering’s Distinguished Speaker Series. The presentation will describe models of solid oxide fuel cells for the conversion of chemical energy from the oxidation of various gaseous fuels.

“Nutritional and Lifestyle Guide to Cancer Prevention” is the first in a new series of informative lectures and workshops sponsored by the Iron Arrow Honor Society and presented by distinguished members of the society. The University of Miami’s Center for Hemispheric Policy will host “The Obama Administration’s Latin America Policy: First-Year Assessment” on Monday, February 1 from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables.
Speakers will include Patricio Navia, adjunct assistant professor at the Center for Latin American Studies at New York University and professor of political science for the Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales at Universidad Diego Portales, Chile; Robert Pastor, professor of international relations for the School of International Service at American University; Susan Kaufman Purcell, director of the Center for Hemispheric Policy at the University of Miami; and moderator Kevin Casas-Zamora, senior fellow of foreign policy for the Latin America Initiative at The Brookings Institution and former vice president of Costa Rica.
