Visiting Professor Margaret Raymond presents “Looking for Trouble: Framing and the Dignitary Interest in the Law of Self-Defense” at the School of Law’s faculty seminar scheduled for Wednesday, February 3. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room, room G480, on the fourth-floor library. The talk will start at 12:35 p.m.; the question-and-answer session will end by 1:50 p.m.

This seminar, presented by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) in partnership with The Families First Network and The Children’s Trust, provides parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 5 the opportunity to learn positive parenting strategies to promote appropriate behaviors and reduce problematic behaviors. Parents and caregivers will discuss ways to manage temper tantrums and other attention-seeking behaviors and will learn techniques to reinforce positive behaviors effectively. A child development specialist from The Families First Network will lead the seminar.

The University of Miami Ethics Programs and the Dunspaugh-Dalton Foundation Community and Educational Well-Being Research Center at the School of Education will host Nel Noddings, professor of philosophy and education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the Lee L. Jacks Professor of Child Education Emerita at Stanford University. Noddings will speak about the relationship between her work on schools and the “Ethics of Care and Its Implications for Community and Educational Well-Being.” The lecture takes place on Wednesday, February 3 at 5 p.m. in the Learning Center, Room 182.
