Urinetown kicks off Ring Theatre’s 2010-11 season

Urinetown, one of the most uproariously funny Broadway musicals in recent years, kicks off the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre’s 2010-11 season. The musical, which runs September 29 through October 9, is a satirical tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is literally worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent corporation that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. From the midst of these downtrodden people a hero emerges to lead a revolution to freedom. An irreverently hilarious spoof, Urinetown has been praised for reinventing the very notion of what a Broadway musical could be.

Season subscriptions for all five Ring Theatre shows are on sale now. Call the theatre at 305-284-3355 for more information or log on to the theatre’s website. The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre is located at 1312 Miller Drive on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus.
