Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s “Skin Cancer Awareness Day” will feature a presentation on “Melanoma Risk, Prevention, and Treatment” given by James Grichnik, director of the Melanoma Program, Sasha Hu, assistant professor, and Lynn Feun, co-leader of the Melanoma SDG. The presentation takes place on Wednesday, May 26 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, room 1301. Information booths will be located on the Sylvester ground-floor lobby and the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics lobby from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the day.

This seminar, offered by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) in partnership with the Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, provides participants with guidelines for achieving optimal health. Forget diets and counting calories. Forget thinking that you need to train like a professional or Olympic athlete. If you are willing to unlearn what you have learned from years of misinformation and propaganda from the mass media, then you can follow very simple principles to eating and exercising that will put you in a state of optimal health.
If you eat a mostly whole-food, plant-based diet and follow a consistent and intense exercise program that includes cardiovascular and strength conditioning, then you will be healthy and free from chronic disease. The scheduled presenter is John E. Lewis, assistant professor, director of research for complementary and integrative medicine, and associate director of the Medical Wellness Center.
