Public meetings are being held for people to learn more about Florida Power & Light Company’s plans to increase nuclear energy production at its Turkey Point facility and install four new high-voltage transmission lines in Miami-Dade County. One of these lines, which would run from Palmetto Bay to downtown Miami, would be adjacent to the Coral Gables campus along Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
An upcoming meeting sponsored by the South Florida Regional Planning Council will be held Wednesday, September 2 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the BankUnited Center’s Hurricane 100 Room. Representatives from FPL and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, which is reviewing the application, will attend. Attendees will be given an overview of the project and the review process. The public will also have an opportunity to ask questions and provide comment.
For more information, call Miami-Dade County’s Department of Planning and Zoning at 305-375-2835 or visit the South Florida Regional Planning Council Web site at www.sfrpc.com/TurkeyPointExpansion.htm.
