Chirag Gheewala, a University of Miami Study Abroad student, will discuss his experience in Monterrey, Mexico. Chirag studied at the Tecnológico de Monterrey during the spring 2009 semester and is eager to share his Study Abroad encounter. Come ask questions during this informal information session, which takes place today, Thursday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Allen Hall 101. The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science will host the “Predicting the Climate of Coming Decades” workshop, scheduled for January 11 – 14, 2010. The event is designed to bring together researchers involved in developing climate prediction systems and potential users to discuss the prospects for decadal climate prediction.
“The climate of the coming decades is going to be influenced by human-induced changes as well as ‘natural’ fluctuations,” said workshop co-chair Amy Clement, associate professor of meteorology and physical oceanography. “To date, these have been examined separately. However, in order to plan for, manage, and adapt to these changes, we need to make predictions that include both naturally occurring and human-induced climate changes.

Have some fun with costs! Join the Office of Research Education and Training Team on Thursday, October 15, from 12 to 1 p.m. for a discussion/game in which the differences between allowable and unallowable costs in proposals will be discussed. The goal of this bimonthly hour-long roundtable group meeting is to provide a forum for administrators and staff to discuss among their colleagues topics of interest related to sponsored programs. A 20-minute presentation will be followed by a discussion and questions session. The event will take place in the Dominion Tower 12th-floor conference room. Topics are announced in advance. The Office of Research Information Management is offering a Velos patient management workshop for study team members, coordinators, research nurses, and all study personnel involved in managing patients. This hands-on module includes discussions on patient enrollment, patient status management, and patient calendars. The workshop will be held in Dominion Towers, tenth-floor training room, on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Please choose one of the upcoming sessions: October 1,8, 15, 22, or 29.
