The Sponsored Programs Education Workshop is a required institutional program for all key personnel listed on proposals. The goal is to educate key personnel and administrators with the fiscal and compliance issues of pre- and post-award management. The workshop covers the most recent information on the grant process, from finding funding opportunities to closing an account. The workshop will review the PI’s role and responsibility for administering sponsored projects, explain established policies and procedures, and provide an overview of the central support services available to the investigator. It will be held on Wednesday, October 28 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Dominion Towers, 12th-floor conference room. Space is limited. Each academic year, the University of Miami’s Faculty Senate holds one of its meetings on the campus of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. The UM Department of Political Science is hosting a public forum on health care reform on Wednesday, October 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Whitten Learning Center 110. Scheduled to appear on the panel are Helen Ferré, host of PBS’s public affairs show Issues; Gregory Koger, a professor in UM’s Department of Political Science and an expert on Congress; Laura Schwartz, CBS Early Show contributor and political consultant; and former Clinton staffer Robert Schwartz, UM Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
