The Lowe Art Museum Store’s annual Recycled Art Book Sale takes place from Thursday, November 12 through Sunday, November 15. Books will be sold by the pound: $.75 a pound for soft cover and $1.50 a pound for hard cover. Bring a bag and stock up. John L. The Latin American Film Series presents Sugar Babies, a film by Amy Serrano. This film examines the moral price of sugar, exposing those who continue to profit via human trafficking in the Dominican Republic. The film screening will take place on Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in Cosford Cinema and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmaker.

Dao M. Nguyen, associate professor and chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Miller School of Medicine, will present “Management of Pleural Effusion-2009” on Thursday, November 12 at 12 p.m. at University of Miami Hospital, Seminar Centers A and B, first floor. By attending this lecture, participants will be able to comprehend systematic work-up of pleural effusion, determine the appropriate treatment option for pleural effusion, and review non-surgical therapy for loculated pleural effusion. The lecture is designed for family practitioners, emergency physicians, surgeons, internists, and hospitalists. The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of one (1) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
