4:00 pm

The 2009-2010 concert season of the University of Miami Choral Studies Program presents “Timeless” on Sunday, November 15 at 4 p.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Coral Gables. The concert features music possessing a “timeless” quality, with an emphasis on folk songs. Capturing eternity in an instant, the pieces tell stories about humanity across the ages, spanning the breadth of cultures and offering a window into the human spirit. This eclectic repertoire will transport you to different realms, allowing you to partake in the hopes and feelings of humanity across time and space. Conducted by Xu Hao Low, the Frost Chamber Singers will present pieces featuring a multitude of time periods and cultures, including Javanese, Mongolian, French, and German.  The men’s ensemble, Maelstrom, will present works ranging from Medieval chant through 20th-century spirituals conducted by Richard Skirpan and Jeffrey S. Stern. The Frost Women’s Chorale will be conducted by Xu Hao Low and Alec Schumacker in selected waltzes by Johannes Brahms, Randall Thompson’s “A Girl’s Garden,” and a new work by Joan Szymko with chamber orchestra. The Frost School’s Collegium Musicum will showcase a variety of Renaissance and modern works by Hassler, Lassus, Byrd, Vaughan Williams, and Britten under the direction of Anthony Gault, Jeb Mueller, and Jeffrey S. Stern. For more information, please contact the UM Choral Studies Program at 305-284-4162, via e-mail at [email protected], or on the Web at www.music.miami.edu/choralstudies.
