Mar

8:00 pm

The Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies will host a lecture by Tal Grinfas-David on Wednesday, March 2 at 8 p.m. at the Miller Center Auditorium, 105 Merrick Building. Grinfas-David will present “Understanding Zionism Through Its Music: A Century of Israeli Music.”

This exploration of Israeli music and culture presents a picture of life in Palestine from the first Aliyah through the founding of the state and into Israel’s contemporary mainstream culture. Touching upon styles and genres of music as a representation of changes in demographics, historical context, and Zionist endeavors, the presentation also examines the lyrics of several songwriters who memorialized key events in Israel’s history and thus helped to shape the nation’s heritage. This multimedia experience of Israeli life through the decades celebrates the struggles and victories of the people as they seek and develop their Israeli identity.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m. on the Scharlin Patio. RSVP to [email protected] or call 305-284-6882.
