María Claudia López, an assistant professor in the Department of Rural and Regional Development in the School of Environmental and Rural Studies at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, will present “Comparing the Effectiveness of Regulation and Individual Emotions to Enhance Cooperation: Experimental Evidence from Fishing Communities in Colombia” on Tuesday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Seminar Room 103. Her talk will present the results of economic field experiments conducted in fishing communities off the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Rosenstiel School and the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy.

In the sixth Ethics Film Series, Adrienne Arsht and UM Ethics Programs, the School of Communication, and the University of Miami Alumni Association present a variety of provocative films, followed by a lively debate moderated by faculty experts. All events are free and open to the public, alumni, students, and the UM community.
The first film in the series, Inside Job, won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Narrated by Matt Damon, the film explores financial meltdown through the lens of relationships that implicate politicians, regulators, and academics. Ann Olazabal, of the School of Business Administration, will moderate the discussion.

Ariel C. Armony, director of the University of Miami’s Center for Latin American Studies, will present “The Transnationalization of Repression in Latin America” on Tuesday, March 22, from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m. at the law library, reading room D201. Armony, a Latin American expert and former Fulbright scholar, is also professor of international studies in UM’s College of Arts and Sciences. He served as the director of the Latin American Studies Program until 2008 at Colby College in Maine, where he was the Audrey W. Hittinger Katz and Sheldon T.
