The Department of Philosophy presents Nel Noddings, Lee L. Jacks Professor of Child Education, Emerita, at Stanford University, on Wednesday, March 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Memorial Building, Room 205. Noddings will present “Women, Pacifism, and Peace.”
Noddings is the author of more than 20 books, including Caring: A Feminine Approach to Ethics and Moral Education, Women and Evil, Happiness and Education, Educating Moral People, Critical Lessons: What Our Schools Should Teach, and most recently The Maternal Factor: Two Paths to Morality. She is the author of more than 200 articles and chapters on various topics, ranging from the ethics of care to mathematical problem solving. Noddings is a former teacher, administrator, and curriculum developer in public schools and is the recipient of numerous teaching and excellence in education awards. This seminar, offered through the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), provides participants with valuable information regarding U.S. Social Security benefits. A public affairs specialist from the Miami-Dade Social Security Administration Office will facilitate the seminar to help attendees understand eligibility criteria and the steps eligible persons may take to secure their benefits. A UM Benefits representative will also be in attendance to answer questions. The seminar will review Social Security benefits, retirement, disability, benefits to families of retirees and the disabled, survivor’s benefits, eligibility, computation of benefits, and Medicare.
