First Annual Bipolar Disorder and Addiction Education Day

The First Annual Bipolar Disorder and Addiction Education Day will take place on Saturday, November 21 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s Retter Auditorium. The event is for individuals with bipolar disorder, family members, caregivers, friends, and all community members interested in learning more about bipolar disorder and addictive disorders.

Speakers will include Juan E. Mezzich, president of the World Psychiatric Association from 2005 to 2008, professor of psychiatry and director of the Division of Psychiatric Epidemiology and International Center for Mental Health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York University; Ihsan Salloum, professor of psychiatry and director of the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse: Treatment and Research, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Miller School of Medicine; and Vineeth John, assistant professor and director, Adult Outpatient Clinic, Mental Health Hospital Center, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Speakers from the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the National Alliance on Mental Illness), and the Fresh Start Drop-in Center also will present.

The event is presented by the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse: Treatment and Research of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Miller School, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the Suicide Prevention Center. Complimentary morning beverages will be provided.
