School of Communication, Frost School of Music partner for UMTV talent show

A new multimedia partnership between the School of Communication, the Frost School of Music, and UMTV brings a fresh look at the talent at the University of Miami. The prestigious schools have formed a new alliance around UMTV’s musical talent TV show U-Tunes.

The partnership will provide students in the fields of television and music production/engineering the opportunity to combine their talents into an exciting and entertaining broadcast project on UMTV, Channel 96 (Comcast). The show will feature performances by students vying to be the winner of U-Tunes for the semester.

In addition to the new spotlight on music talent, judges from the Frost School faculty, the South Florida music industry, GRAMMY University Network, and related student-run music companies at UM will provide entertaining commentary.

Originally launched in Fall 2008 as Musical Expression, UMTV’s musical talent competition gave the winner the opportunity to star in his or her own music video. With support from the Frost School of Music and ‘Cane Records, the winner will also receive complimentary registration for the Miami Music Festival as well as a prize package provided by ‘Cane Records and other sponsors. U-Tunes will begin production on its first season under this new partnership in late September. Information on when the first episode will air will be available on umtv.miami.edu.

Those interested in auditioning for U-Tunes or joining the crew should e-mail [email protected] for more details.
