SEEDS Industrial Engineering Speaker Series

Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity and Success (SEEDS) is sponsoring an Industrial Engineering Speaker Series beginning Thursday, September 17 from 4 to 5 p.m in McArthur Engineering Annex 202. The first talk will feature Hayriye Ayhan, an associate professor at Georgia Institute of Technology who has served as secretary and treasurer of the INFORMS Applied Probability Society and has held an NSF Career Award. Her area of expertise is stochastic processes and applied probability with an emphasis on analysis and control of queuing systems, and she has published on applied probability, operations research, and control. The seminar, titled “Queuing Networks with Cross-Trained Servers,” will be immediately followed by a mentoring event. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.as.miami.edu/seeds. Improve your writing skills for the workplace. Whether writing is a responsibility or a part of the daily routine, Business Writing is designed for those who want to write effective material. In this course, attendees will identify writing strengths and weaknesses, improve sentence construction and paragraph development, examine proper e-mail etiquette for the workplace, and write effective business communications. Individuals will review strategies and planning steps to ensure messages are clear, concise, and easily understood by readers. This is a blended learning course; the four Business Writing CBLs must be completed prior to registering for the live, instructor-led session.
